Laos has reopened its borders to foreign travellers from January 1, 2022 under the three-phase reopening scheme.
Travelers may travel within the “Green Travel Zones” and “Green Travel Trails”, allowing them to visit provinces and cities in the country designated as “green zones.” During this first phase, from January 1 to March 30, 2022, visitors can enter Laos booking packaged tours and visit Vientiane the capital city, Luang Prabang Province and Vang Vieng District only. The provinces in the “Green Travel Trails” consists of Oudomxay, Xayaboury, Xieng Khouang, Khammouane and Champassak.
Effective from May 9, 20202, Laos has reopened all international borders for Visitors. The conditions to enter Laos include:
✓ Fully vaccinated travellers (2 doses) will not require COVID test either before or upon arriving Laos
✓ No Covid-specific insurance with minimum cover required. Foreigners entering Lao PDR who contact COVID-19 shall be responsible for all treatment expenses: ” at hospitals, hotels or home isolation in line with Ministry of Health (MoH) instructions.
Note: The above conditions are applied for all international borders to Laos are opened
Visa to Laos
✓ Visa on arrival is back for eligible nationalities that used to enjoy agreements prior Covid times. Other nationalities will have to apply at their nearest Lao Embassy / Consulate before traveling.
✓ Nationalities who used to enjoy a visa exemption are resumed at the same conditions as before Covid.
