Bokor Mountain

This is the unmissable destination when traveling to the town of Kampot as its base is located just 8 km away. The main attraction is the Bokor Hill which was a French retreat station during the 1920s when they wanted to escape the heat.

The main sites to see are the old ruins of the beautiful colonial buildings constructed by the French. One of the more famous sites is the Black Palace which used to be King Sihanouk’s residence which is still in surprisingly good shape. The view from this building is spectacular, especially during sunset. The abandoned Catholic Church is worth visiting as it was the site of fierce fighting by different government forces. The Le Bokor Palace Hotel and Casino is also worth checking out as it was the hotspot during the 20s.

Just 5 km away from the casino is the Popokvil Waterfalls which is an amazing sight during the rainy season. There’s also a jungle trail beside the falls if one is feeling adventurous and navigating it will reward you with a hidden Wat. Each site has a food and refreshment station but don’t expect anything fancy.
