Commencing on March 6, 2024, the visa exemption agreement between the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and Mongolia, encompassing diplomatic, official, and ordinary passport holders, signed on November 1, 2023, will be enforced. This pivotal agreement signifies a significant advancement in fostering collaboration, streamlining border crossings, and promoting interactions between the populace of both nations.

As per the terms of the agreement, individuals from each country holding diplomatic or official passports valid for a minimum of six (06) months are granted visa exemption upon entry, exit, transit, and stay in the other country’s territory for up to ninety (90) days from the date of arrival. Additionally, members of diplomatic missions, consular offices, international organizations of Vietnam and Mongolia, along with their dependents, are exempted from visa requirements throughout their tenure.

In contrast to the previous arrangement which only extended visa exemptions to diplomatic and official passport holders, this new agreement significantly broadens the scope of movement for citizens of both countries, particularly those with ordinary passports.

Under this updated agreement, individuals holding ordinary passports valid for at least six (06) months are exempted from visas when entering, exiting, transiting, and staying in the other country’s territory for a maximum of thirty (30) days from the date of entry, provided their visit is not for income-generating purposes.

Moreover, it is outlined in the agreement that individuals from one country intending to stay beyond the aforementioned period must obtain a visa in advance before entering the other party’s territory. This not only facilitates tourism and cultural exchanges but also fosters bilateral trade and investment endeavors.

The primary objective of this new agreement is to fortify the existing amicable relations between Vietnam and Mongolia. Upon implementation, this agreement will supersede the prior travel conditions agreement signed on January 7, 2000.
